My name is Joe Gossack, but I go by Skip, and I’ve been making knives for others for about five years now. Like every other knife maker, I started out at 9 or 10 years old trying to make an old butter knife a little sharper out on the sidewalk in front of the house. It probably started with a stick before that. I’ve been grinding out blades for myself or a friend for as long as I can remember.
I’m a hunter and a fisherman, I love being in the woods, or on the river. I’m an introvert, but get me talking about last years archery season, or my latest batch of knives and I’ll talk all day.
I have a regular job, it’s mostly routine stuff you’re not supposed to talk about , but I do get a little excitement now and then, all that means is I’m only a part-time knife maker. No matter how much I love the steel, the bills still need to get paid.
